The water level of the river Danube in Bulgaria is constantly monitored to assess flood risks. The disaster management authorities say on 19th May there is no danger of flooding in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube. The water level near the town of Vidin is not rising at the moment and is 810 cm. There is a slight surge near Novo Selo. However, the risk of high water of the river Danube remains.
The Interior Minister, Tsvetlin Yovchev, and Commissioner Nikolai Nikolov, the Head of the National Fire Safety and Protection of Population Service will visit the region to make themselves familiar with the flood control measures.
For the time being, there is no risk of flooding in the region of the city of Rousse. The water level in that section of the river has gone up by 30 cm since last night. Water overflew on the road to the fishing village near ‘Prista’ hut. Groundwater gushed out in the region of Nova Cherna, near the town of Tutrakan and the village of Brashlyan near Rousse and covered maize fileds.
New surge of the Danube River is expected in the next few days as a result of a wave coming from Serbia. According to forecasts the water level will rise by 1-1,5 m.
So far, the situation in the section near the town of Silistra remains calm. The level is by 60 cm below the critical level of 7 m for that stretch.
