The new school year in Bulgaria started

Approximately 60,000 students will start school for the first time, by 3,000 less in comparison to the last year.

The new school year was opened with hoisting of the flag and the national anthem.

As part of the tradition, the beginning was marked with the ceremonial bell-ringing, children bringing flowers to teachers and festivities.

Minister of Education, Krassimir Valchev, announced that by the end of the year, BGN 6 million will be allocated for the purchase of lockers for all Bulgarian schools. This will be a way to tackle heavy school backpacks.

President Rumen Radev opened the school year at the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures in Sofia.

In his speech, he addressd the students with the words, "Wherever you go, whatever you do, be with the thought of Bulgaria."

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov congratulated the Bulgarian teachers, students and parents in Facebook on the first school day. He wished them good health, every success, patience and wisdom.
