There is still no green certificate for those who had covid-19 twice. The forecast of Deputy Minister of Health Alexander Zlatanov for BNT that such a document could be issued by the end of the day did not come true. There is no official order yet. And “Information Services” said they would need time to reconfigure the National Health Information System.

The peak of the fourth Covid-19 wave is waning and there is no need for a lockdown, Deputy Health Minister Alexander Zlatanov told BNT on November 18.

According to Deputy Minister Zlatanov, the anti-epidemic measures currently in force in Bulgaria are yielding results.

"The peak of the fourth Covid-19 wave is waning. The measures we announced paid off because it is a fact that we did impose a lockdown. And the alternative was the green certificate," said Alexander Zlatanov.

"Hospitals are still overwhelmed, because the number of people in hospitals is still large. The pressure is slightly easing. We do not have to increase the number of Covid-19 beds. We now have more available beds," Alexander Zlatanov said.

According to Zlatanov, the caretaker government has provided funds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients and support for front-line workers by the end of the year.

"By the end of the year, we have provided absolutely all the necessary funds for the treatment of Covid-19. Including these new drugs, which are expected to appear in early or mid-December," said Dr. Alexander Zlatanov.

At an extraordinary meeting tomorrow, the European Medicines Agency will consider the documents of the two companies that offer antiviral medicines for the treatment of coronavirus.

"They have excellent efficiency - in 80 and over 80% of cases they reduce the likelihood of hospitalisation. They are taken orally, which will be very easy, including in outpatient practices," said Zlatanov.

Approval for the use of these medicines in Europe is expected by the end of the year. And the first quantities in Bulgaria will probably be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.

"Bulgarian citizens will have access to these medicines. The question is who should receive it? Who will presribe them, who will pay for them?" said Prof. Ilko Getov - Bulgaria's representative at the European Medicines Agency.

One course of treatment with the new medicines will cost about BGN 1,000, Getov said. And the health ministry said the drugs would initially be free-in-charge. However, experts say that the best way to prevent the coronavirus is immunization. The Ministry of Health assured that there are enough vaccines in Bulgaria.
