The Russian embassy in Bulgaria on March 25 made a sharp comment on the words of Bulgarian Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, about the Russian President on the continuation of the “Turkish Stream” gas pipeline.
The Russian embassy’s statement reads - "Instead of elementary gratitude for the rapid and successful implementation of the project, which is not only mutually beneficial for our countries, but has also contributed significantly to strengthening energy security in South-Eastern Europe and diversification of energy supplies, we hear only baseless attacks."
Earlier today, Daniel Mitov of opposition GERB party, who was a guest on BNT "More of the Day" programme, said that “Balkan Stream” is a project built with Bulgarian funds and is Bulgarian-owned. In his words, Bulgaria can close this pipe whenever it wants, it can receive gas not only from Russia but from other suppliers also.

PM Petkov said in a Facebook post on March 25 that corruption is one of the instruments used by Russian President Vladimir Putin to exercise influence in Bulgaria. He gave as an example the “Turk Stream” natural gas pipeline, where three billion leva of Bulgarian money were spent on the construction of a foreign pipeline. Petkov said he discussed this with U.S. President Biden at the meeting of the European leaders in Brussels on the same date.
