The perpetrators of July 2012 terrorist bombing attack on a group of Israeli tourists in Bourgas will be brought to justice, Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev said on 7th of July after talks in Sofia with his Israeli counterpart, Reuven Rivlin, who was on an official visit to Bulgaria.

President Rivlin emphasized that all countries should unite efforts in the fight against terrorism.

President Plevneliev highlighted the good coordination between Bulgaria, Israel and the partnering services as a result of which there were specific results in connection with the terror attack in Bourgas. He said the July 2012 attack had not achieved the goal of its perpetrators because the flow of Israeli tourists to Bulgaria did not decrease. The President said that every effort was made to ensure that tragedies such as the Bourgas Airport terrorist attack were not repeated.“None of us will be calm until the people who organized and committed the attack are brought to court. This will happen very soon,” Plevneliev said.

“I have been assured by the Prosecutor-General that it is a matter of days,” he said.

Ruven Rivlin reminded that the rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during the World War II would never be forgotten.

He said that this was the best extension to the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples. PM Borissov noted that Israel was an important and viable foreign trade partner to Bulgaria. “We expect to see all efforts made so far leading to increase in trade relations, investments and tourists between the two countries,“ PM Borissov noted.

Later, Presidents Plevneliev and Rivlin unveiled a monument dedicated to the saving of Bulgaria’s Jewish people during World War II. After that President Rivlin met with representatives of the Israeli community in Bulgaria.
