Thick fog blanketed across the region of Varna in the North East part of Bulgaria, bringing disruption to the road and air traffic. Visibility is low, less than 150 metres in most of the region and the roads are wet.
Traffic Police advises drivers to take caution. Due to the dense fog two flights from and to Varna Airport were cancelled.
Flights at Sofia Airport are not affected by the thick fog as a result of the recently introduced system for aircraft landing during conditions of fog. It ensures safe landing at ground visibility of 75 metres. During conditions of reduced visibility, runways braking effects and surface temperature are checked more frequently.
A very small number of flights are cancelled at Sofia Airport because most aircrafts are equipped to operate with the landing system installed at the airport, except a limited number of old aircrafts.
