TURKEY’S PM DAVUTOGLU ON A VISIT IN SOFIA

On 15th of December, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu, who is on a working visit to Bulgaria.

"I can say that our border is not under migration pressure," PM Borissov said at a joint press conference after the meeting.

“The visit to Sofia shows our close good-neighbourly relations and our common destiny”, Davutoglu said. “Relations with Bulgaria will be our priority”, he emphasized. “The trade in goods between the two countries, which is currently at a size of 5 billion dollars, will increase”, Davutoglu said. “We will implement major transport projects, including a high speed rail link between Sofia and Istanbul. We will connect Bulgaria to Turkey through a gas interconnector for supply of gas from Azerbaijan. We have a joint commitment to the Turkish population in Bulgaria, which is a bridge between the two countries”, he added.

“Borissov has backed Turkey’s bid for EU membership, for which we are grateful. We also discussed regional policies with the participation of Greece, as well as the human tragedy of the Syrian refugees. We hope that in April we will hold a high level meeting between the two governments in Sofia”, Davutoglu said.

Borissov said that Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece have decided to build interconnectors which together with the gas hub “Balkan” will achieve real diversification and flow of natural gas in all directions. I hope the ministers of transport will invite us soon to the opening of the railway between Bulgaria and Turkey, on which the trains will travel at a speed of 180-190 km/h”, Borrisov added.

He noted that the two also discussed signing of an agreement for medicines policy. “In the area of internal affairs, we work on operations against human trafficking. There are people who make huge profits at the background of this human tragedy. I hope our services will show tangible results in this area”, Borissov remarked.

Later on 15th of December, Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev also met with the Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu.
