This season the water at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast is much cleaner than in previous years. The measures that the state has taken with the construction of wastewater treatment plants produce the desired results, the Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov isaid on 30th of august in Varna.
Today, he inspected the Golden Sands Wastewater Treatment Plant and the preparation of the heavy oil drainage operation from the sinking ship Mopang near Sozopol.
The reason for the urgent inspection of the Golden Sands Wastewater Treatment Plant was an alert reported by water and sewerage company in the resort complex that there is overflowing of the system, which could lead to overflowing of the sewer shafts.
The purification station is operating in its usual mode, the Water and Sewerage Company in Varna assured, although in recent weeks the level of waste water has increased as there are more tourists. There is no flow of waters to the sea beyond the norm.
In Bourgas, the environment minister inspected the preparations for draining the heavy oil from the sunk ship Mopang near Sozopol. Satellite pictures show no pollution.
Next week, divers with specialised equipment are expected to begin pumping the oil from the ship.
