Villages are growing in popularity during the coronavirus pandemic. It has resulted in increased number of house purchases in many regions in Bulgaria.
Gabrovo municipality (Central Northern Bulgaria) is among the most popular area. It is becoming more and more difficult to find properties for sale there.
Until recently, Gabrovo region had the largest number of villages with unoccupied houses in the whole country. However, the COVID pandemic has led to a change - many villages have already increased their population and properties for sale are running out. For the past 6 months the number of residents in the village of Vranilovtsi has increased by 80 people, mostly young people.
People are increasingly searching for larger homes with more space to live and work, and with a garden. They attracted by the idea of living somewhere a bit less busy and intense, and to avoid the virus and many people in the big cities.
A lot of buyers are looking for homes within commuting distance of Sofia. So, a lot villages around the capital are reporting enhanced interest in properties.
"Since the virus appeared, we have 108 people registered here," said Angel Bonev, deputy mayor of the village of Karapoltsi, near Sofia.
And the mayor of the neighbouring village of Lesnovo says that there are many new residents. He explained that only yards, on which to build a house, have remained for sale. .
"The price per decare was BGN 30,000. Now it is about BGN 40,000." said Stoyan Zarchov, mayor of the village of Lesnovo.
"This year the demand for houses and properties has increased due to the pandemic, as it is much safer here in the countryside," said Nikolay Kitov, in the village of Lesnovo, near Sofia.
Mayors, whose villages are full of life, are satisfied. There is something good in every bad thing, they say.
