"After a year of political instability and two unsuccessful attempts to form cabinets, we are faced with the need to work in a complex four-party coalition. This was the decision of the Bulgarian voters. On the topic of sending military-technical assistance to Ukraine, on the one hand we have the Bulgarian Socialist Party, for which sending such assistance is a red line that they can not afford to cross. On the other hand, we have “Democratic Bulgaria” with the red line that Bulgaria is facing a historic moment and must send weapons directly to Ukraine”, reads the position of "We Continue the Change" on Ukraine, which was also published on the personal profile of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov on Facebook.

(The Bulgarian Socialist Party has said it would withdraw from the ruling majority if Bulgaria sends military asssitance to Ukraine. Democratic Bulgaria on April 21 hinted possible withdrawal from the ruling coaslition if the National Assembly did not vote for weapons for Ukraine.

On April 20, the Foreign Policy Committee approved the provision of "technical assistance for defensive purposes" to Ukraine and rejected the two proposals of GERB-UDF and "Democratic Bulgaria" concerning the provision of military aid to Kiev.)

Where are we:

- "Bulgaria is currently providing assistance to over 90,000 Ukrainian women and children who have been forced to flee their homes and loved ones because of the Russian aggressor;

- Bulgaria is currently helping Ukraine with humanitarian aid;

- The Bulgarian government has sent all the helmets and vests for the protection of the Ukrainian population freely available in our stocks;

- Bulgaria has been a strong voice for Ukraine in Brussels and at the International Criminal Court in The Hague since the beginning.

And here we are faced with the choice of whether we want to cross the red lines of one of the two coalition partners at this point," the party added.

“We Continue the Change” explained that at the same time there is currently one Bulgarian ship in Russian hands and one Bulgarian ship in Ukrainian hands.

"With Bulgarian citizens on board. These are Bulgarian lives.

- If we want to conduct a successful rescue operation for our fellow citizens, we must have a united position.

- If we want to continue to provide humanitarian aid and expand our support to Ukraine, we must have a united position and the ability to make responsible management decisions.

- If we want to give stability to every Bulgarian in the conditions of crisis, we must have a united position", says "We Continue the Change".

The party calls for political talk to be put aside.

"It is time to stop talking about red lines and setting ultimatums that benefit only one political force. Bulgaria’s greatest interest at the moment is to have responsible and coordinated actions of the ruling coalition. It is in the greatest interest of Ukraine to have a stable Bulgaria. We are aware of the weight of the historic moment, but we from “We Continue the Change” believe that we must take the responsible decisions, even when these are incompatible with political PR and useful talk. It is important for us in this complex four-party coalition to be a source of stability for Bulgaria, while at the same time taking care of the lives of our fellow citizens, no matter where in the world they are," "We Continue the Change" added.

They note that the party will continue to be a constructive and responsible political partner.

"At this moment, “We Continue the Change” will pursue an active policy of dialogue between the Bulgarian Socialist Party and Democratic Bulgaria in order to unite around a unified position. Because united we stand strong, not divided," Continue the Change said.
