Representatives of the American Westinghouse Electric Company met with100 Bulgarian companies and organizations operating in the area of energy industry, consultancy services, security and technical equipment. Westinghouse is the company, whose technology the Bulgarian government plans to use for the construction of 7th power unit of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. Westinghouse representatives said they would mostly rely on Bulgarian subcontractors to build the reactor.

The State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has backed the American technology, but commented that its influence on the prices of electricity would be clarified at a later stage, following a serious analysis. By the end of September, Westinghouse and Bulgarian Energy Holding have to specify the cost for the construction of the new unit.

The President of Westinghouse Electric Company for Europe, Middle East, and Africa Region, Yves Brachet, commented for the BNT news programme ‘Around the World and at Home’ that the company would rely on Bulgarian businesses. He remarked that working in the area of nuclear power industry was not an easy job and very high standards were required and added that they would explain what would be necessary to achieve such standards.

He also said that the company did not have own workshops and plants, except those in which nuclear power was generated and therefore entirely would rely on the potential and national industries of the countries where they operated in order to build the whole chain locally.
