14 km long queue of lorries was formed at Danube bridge in the city of Vidin on 23rd of January. The queue at Danube Bridge in Rousse is 13 km long. Traffic at the Bulgarian –Romanian Border in the direction to Romania is very busy.
Additional lane for heavy freight vehicles has been open for traffic in order to alleviate the situation, Bulgarian Border Police said.
When there are no cars, the TIR lorries are let through the lane for cars. Almost 30—40 freight vehicles cross the bridge per hour.
The reason for the long queues is that the ferries are not working because of the ice formation on the Danube river.
Border authorities at the two checkpoints are working at full capacity – 2 windows for clearance of freight lorries at exit to Romania.
