160,000 BGN from the donations for Hitrino will be used to provide warm lunch for the residents of the village in the winter months. The public council on management of the funds from the national donation campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross made that decision at its first meeting on 28th of December.
Currently, 2 million BGN have been raised by donors through the SMS fund raising campaign. An estimate will be made in mid-January 2017 to calculate which needs of the residents in Hitrino will not be covered by the state and the European aid and then more from the donated funds will be allocated for these needs.
First survey of the buildings in the village shows that 20 houses need to be built anew and almost 70 need partial or general repair. The mayor of Hitrino, Huridin Ismail said he would create organization to ensure that the donations will not be misused.
Seven people died and 29 were injured by an explosion of a derailed cargo train carrying tanks of polypropylene and propane-butane in the village of Hitrino, North-East Bulgaria on 10th of December. The explosion also destroyed 26 houses and public buildings, including the municipal office and the Hitrino railway station building.
