The migration pressure at Bulgaria’s border with Turkey for the first two weeks in August has dropped by 56% in comparison with the same period in 2015, the regional directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Elhovo told BNT on 18th of August. 150 illegal migrants were detained for the period 1st to 15th of August.
In 2016, the Bulgarian border authorities have thwarted attempts of 2,250 foreigners from third countries to cross from Turkey into Bulgaria illegally. For the same period in 2015, the authorities prevented illegal border crossing of 5,204 foreigners. There is a decrease by more than 50%.
In the recent 24 hours, 200 people attempted to cross into Bulgaria illegally. 12 of them succeeded.
Since the beginning of 2016, 30,000 people attempted to cross into Bulgaria.
