25-year-old man was arrested for the quadruple murder in Novi Iskar

Following the brutalquadruple murder in Novi Iskar on 18^th of February, the police detained a 25-year-old man suspected of killing his family. The Interior Ministry said the detainee was in a very serious mental state.

The man killed his mother, father, brotyher and grand mother with an axe.

According to neighbours, the suspect was supposed to go to a psychiatric clinic for treatment.

Police identified Georgi as the suspect after his father's colleagues started searching for him because he had not been at work for two days. The father was a retired military, who currently worked at the Kostinbrod unit. The head of the police station in Novi Iskar went to the family home.

Georgi Hadzhiev, Director of Sofia Police Directorate: The perpetrator himself opened the door and was in an absolutely inadequate condition. When asked by a colleague where his parents were and his father, he said they were at a funeral in Plovdiv. Then he made a phone call, and when he heard the mobile phones ringing inside, he entered the house.

Inside, police officers found the bodies of the father, mother, brother and grandmother of the detained Georgi. Minutes later, the area was cut off. At the family home, investigators found the axe with which the family was killed.

Georgi Hadzhiev: His mental health is in a deteriorated condition.

The Prosecutor's Office said Georgi had undergone several psychiatric examinations over the past few years. However, he was not registered as mentaly ill. The Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor's Office stated that the detainee had no previous criminal record and there were no complaints and signals against him.

According to neighbours, however, the two boys in the family had mental issues. Alexander often helped the dead father, the two were friends.

Alexander Iliev, neighbour: I help them. I repaired their roof, I gave them tiles. Good people. The children’s health was not well.

Neighbours said that the mother looked after the two brothers.

Ivanka, neighbour: Only once with the mother of the boys we spoke, and she said she was giving 200 BGN for medicines because the boys were in good health.
