Fifty five people crossed the Bulgarian border illegally in the region of Strandzha, South-East Bulgaria over the past 24 hours. The illegal migrants were detained in the early hours on 6th of October by police officers from the Black sea coastal city of Bourgas, South-East of Bulgaria.
One of the groups included 26 men, discovered travelling in a cargo vehicle, were detained by police patrol in the region of Karnobat. The other group, including a woman with a child and 27 men, discovered in a cargo vehicle with number plate registered in Plovdiv, were detained by the gendarmerie near the village of Bratovo, Bourgas region. The migrants say they are citizens of Afghanistan and Syria and travel from Istanbul.
Fast track proceedings were initiated against the two drivers – Bulgarian nationals.
In the interviews, the migrants say they do not know from where they crossed the border. After medical examination, the illegal migrants will be transported for accommodated in the specialized refugee centre in the town of Harmanli..
