All major roads in Bulgaria on 9th of January are passable in winter conditions. Drivers are advised to comply with the restriction of movement of freight lorries and the requirement for the use of chains in some road sections. There are no villages without electricity.
The low temperatures continue. More snowfalls are expected from Tuesday, 10th of January. School holidays have been extended because of the cold weather and the flu epidemics. In the next two days, each municipality will make own decisions on when the schools will re-open.
Temperatures are in the range of - 21 to - 5 C °. It is cloudy and windy across the country. It is snowing in the region of Sofia.
75% of the roads in North-East Bulgaria are passable. Restrictions remain in place for the movement of heavy freight vehicles in the road section Targovishte - Shumen and Shumen - Isperih. Rishki pass is also open for traffic.
One main road section, Montana – Lom, has not been open for traffic yet because the low temperatures create difficulties for the snow ploughing machines.
Snow ploughing machines and equipment of the military and the firefighting services remain on the territory of North-East Bulgaria because more snow and strong winds are expected from 10th of January.
