Angel Angelov, a Bulgarian IT teacher from the North Bulgarian city of Shumen, has been nominated for the Global Teacher Prize.
It is an annual 1 million dollar award that will be given to a teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. The award is an equivalent of a ‘Nobel Prize’.
The Varkey Foundation established the Prize in 2014 to raise the stature of the teaching profession.
The nomination for the award came unexpectedly for him. He was proposed by a colleague from the city of Stara Zagora, the English language teacher, Rositsa Mineva.
Angelov says he thinks the nomination was made because he has worked with students who have great achievements at national and international level. He explains he has arranged and conducted many trainings and on-line seminars.
Angelov has been selected as a Microsoft innovative education expert for 2015 for his contribution to the use of information technologies in teaching process.
