The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has found an outbreak of African Swine Fever in an unregistered private farm in the village of Krasnovo, Hissarya region, Southern Bulgaria.
The positive result of the tests was confirmed today by the National Reference Laboratory in Sofia. There were 2 sows, one of which with 3 young, in the affected "backyard".
During an inspection, inspectors from the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Food Safety found that the animals had symptoms of the African swine fever virus. Measures have been taken to control and eradicate the disease in accordance with the regulations. The animals were killed in a humane manner and were disposed of in compliance with regulatory requirements.
A 3-kilometre protection zone has been set up around the outbreak, which includes the village of Krasnovo. A 10-kilometre surveillance zone has been established, which includes the village of Malo Krushevo, the village of Belovitsa, the village of Starosel, the village of Krastevich and the village of Dragomir, Plovdiv district, as well as the village of Dyulevo, Pazardzhik district. Tomorrow a regional epizootic commission will be convened in the Plovdiv Regional Administration.
