The 32nd edition of “Apollonia” Festival of Arts was officially opened on 2nd of September. The festival is held every year in the Bulgarian seaside town of Sozopol.

Music and film premieres, new books and many exhibitions are included in the programme.

This year’s edition of this major Bulgarian event was opened with “Jazz Artisis” music project. The project is a premiere and involves two soloists – the actors Militsa Gladnishka and Atanas Srebrev who sang with the Big-Band of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Margarita Dimitrova, Executive Director of Apollonia Foundation, which is the sponsor of the event, said that the "Apollonia" award would be given to the poet Ivan Teofilov. On 3rd of September, he will present his new book. The second prize will be awarded to the singer Poli Genova (Bulgaria’s representative at the grand–final of 2016 Eurovision song contest).

Every year, Apollonia art festival brings together some of the best musicians, artists, actors and creative people from different genres and Sozopol turns into the capital of the Bulgarian culture, attracting thousands of fans, the mayor of the seaside town Panayot Reizi said.

The art festival will run until 10th of September. It includes over 70 performances by various actors who are famous at both Bulgarian and international stage and their most recent works, plays and shows. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the performances of singers Poli Genova, Grafa, D2 and Lyubo Kirov, “The Foundation” and Bourgas Philharmonic, Tonika, Ivo Papazov, Trakiya Band, Jeremy, Philip Kutev national folk ensamble and others.

Every day, there will be more than 30 book reading events presenting the most popular Bulgarian authors in the recent years such as Vladimir Levchev, Angel Igov, Ivan Teofilov and Vladimir Zarev.

As part of the tradition, the programme includes a panorama of the Bulgarian feature films and documentaries. Many will be premieres. The pre-premiere of the film “Glory” by Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva is expected to become one of the major film events.

Some of the most interesting plays performed on the theatre stages in the country during the year are also included in the programme. In the days between 3rd and 10th of September, theatre lovers will see "The Credit" by Bina Haralampieva (Plovdiv Drama Theatre), "No Man's Land" by Stoyan Radev (National Theatre "Ivan Vazov") and "The Purple Island" by Mikhail Bulgakov, staging by Teddy Moskov ( State Puppet Theatre Varna).

Exhibitions with works by six of the most popular Bulgarian artists - Andrei Lekarski, Stoyko Sakaliev, Theophan Sokerov, Kalin Nikolov, Dimitar Trukanov and Ivan Bahchenov will be part of the festival. The photographerTemelko Temelkov will present the exhibition with photographs ANIMA ANIMUS.

This year’s festival will again feature meetings and talks with renowned artists of Bulgarian and world culture. The idea is those artists to share their thoughts on the true success in art.
