A co-ordinating prosecutor will receive the reports about assaults on doctors and medical staff from the Emergency Response Center, the municipal and state hospitals in Sofia, Sofia's regional prosecutor, Radoslav Dimov told BNT on 4th of September. Prosecutor Mima Kutskova was appointed to the post. The purpose of the measure is to complete the investigations within a period of two weeks.
In the event of an assault, the hospital or emergency centre management should immediately notify the police and the co-ordinating prosecutor.
Radoslav Dimov explains that the coordinating prosecutor would deal with the initial co-ordination, which includes the identification of the initial necessary actions for the fast-track investigation, and then the case will be accepted by another prosecutor who will lead the investigation until it is completed, i.e. until the case is brought to court.
If necessary, the coordinating prosecutor will also visit the site of the incident. The expected effect from the measure is fast-track investigation and punishment for the people who have asssualted medical specialists, Dimov explained.
Kutskova will be available 24 hours a day. Her telephone number has already been sent to the health ministry, and will be provided to the hospitals and the emergency centre in Sofia. Prosecutor Chudomir Spasov, who heads the Department for "Crimes against the Person" at Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office, is appointed as her deputy.
