Attempted murder-suicide on Sofia underground leaves one dead and one seriously injured

A woman is seriously injured and a man is dead following a murder-suicide on the underground in the area of Sofia airport on May 12.

Around 14.15, the police received a signal from an employee of the underground about a man and a woman in a helpless condition.

According to unconfirmed reports, it was a homicide. The man shot the woman and then shot himself.

The man died immediately. The woman was taken to “St, Anna” hospital in a serious condition, with 4 gunshot wounds, in a coma and life-threatening condition.She did not have personal documents with her.

It is not clear whether the shooting took place on the underground train or at a station.

The police is on site. The area is zoned off. An investtigation is underway.

Speaking at a briefing later on May 12, the head of “St. Anna” hospital, Slavcho Bliznakov, said that the woman was transported to the hospital by an ambulance of the medical emergency service. She is in an extremely serious condition and her life is in danger. The woman arrived at the hospital with 4 gunshot wounds, one in the head, two in the chest and one in the abdomen, the doctor said.

The police subsequently established the identity of the persons on the basis of personal documents, but their relatives are yet to identify them.

It is not yet known whether the man and woman had airplane tickets.

Investigative actions are ongoing. It must also be established whether the persons had a relationship with each other - marital relations or marriage with other persons.

There are no direct eyewitnesses to the incident. People who found the lifeless bodies will be interviewed, the police explained.

The man was born in 1958 and the woman was born in 1965, They have no previous criminal record.
