The waters of three large dams in the district of Pazardzhik, Southern Bulgaria have frozen.
Batak dam at Tsigov Chark resort in the Rhodope Mountains attracted many tourists as the frozen surface looked more like a skating rink. However, the ice poses many hazards and people need to be careful.
Some of the staff working in the resort said on 4th of January that they saw many visitors venturing out onto the layer of ice atop the lake. In the early hours of the morning some even drove their cars on the frozen surface. This however poses great risks of ice cracking and collapsing into the icy waters, they noted.
The frozen body of water attracted many to go ice fishing.
