Cold weather bringing low temperatures and intense snowfall is predicted from 5th and 6th of January. Significant snowfall and strong winds are expected in the southern parts of the country.
Police advise people to avoid driving between 5th and 7th of January when the weather conditions are expected to be bad, unless travelling is necessary.
Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency said on 4th of January that they are prepared for the severe weather.
The Head of Crises Management unit of the South Bulgarian city of Bourgas, Galina Baicheva, said that all snow plowing/removal companies with which the local municipality had contracts had been inspected and were prepared for the severe weather conditions.
Currently, all the streets in Bourgas are passable and the public transport runs on schedule. The snow plowing machines are ready for cleaning snowy roads.
Streets, boulevards and steep sections in the capital Sofia have been treated with suitable substances, the Deputy Mayor of Sofia, Evgeni Krussev said. Winter road treatment has started since 03:00 in the morning. More than 60 snow removal machines have sprinkled anti-icing chemicals.
Sand has been spread on the mountain roads in Vitosha.
He reminded all drivers to equip the vehicles for driving in winter conditions, to drive cautiously and at the right speed.
