Border police and customs officers were detained during a specialised operation at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint (border with Turkey) on November 12.
The operation is conducted in relation to the fight against corruption. The work of investigators continues.
A large-scale corruption scheme at Kalotina border crossing (border with Serbia) was disrupted ealier this year.
The investigation identified that police officers from the checkpoint covered up a bribery scheme with the help of a restaurant in Sofia.
“Internal Security” unit went into the traces of the investigative police officers after numerous reports about corruption. Two police officers, one of whom had a long career in the system, offered assistance by abusing the names of Sofia magistrates.
During the operation, a bribe of BGN 2,000 was agreed, which was to be handed over in two tranches. The traces had to be erased with the help of a third person, the manager of a restaurant in Sofia, who put the money into the turnover of the restaurant.
After the operation, it became clear that the Interior Minister personally monitored the work on the case. Police intelligence sources were used.
