The 60th anniversary of the University Botanical Garden in Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastal town of Balchik was marked by a series of events and activities on 27th of July.
The botanical garden is part of a complex including a palace, which in the past served as the summer residence of Queen Mariе of Romania.
Now, the garden features a large variety of flowers and contains a rich collection of over 3,400 types of cacti and succulents. PhD Krasimir Kosev believes that in the next years, Balchik botanical garden will top the ranking in Europe in terms of number of cacti specimens.
The botanical garden is a place for scientific work as well as a place of beauty. Students from the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University gave a presentation on the healing powers of the herbs and plants grown in it.
For its 60 years of existence, the botanical garden has been visited by millions of tourists. For sure many family albums keep a memory of this fabulous landscape on the sea beach in Balchik.
