Serious air pollution was registered in Sofia on November 26. In some places the fine dust particles were several times above the norm. Therefore, tomorrow, November 27, buffer parking lots of the underground will be free of charge.
At certain hours, air pollution is up to four times above normal. The forecast of Sofia Municipality for tomorrow is also not encouraging. The European Air Quality Index shows that early this morning the air quality was very poor in “Pavlovo” and “Nadezhda” residential neighbourhoods in Sofia.
The air quality in Sofia is measured by only 6 stations, one of which is in the mountains, one is temporarily out of order, and none is located in the city centre.
"Our maps have been showing heavy pollution for several days. They appeared purple. The fine dust particles and toxins that are in the air mix with the water droplets of the fog and penetrate our bodies much more easily, Stefan Dimitrov, one of the volunteers of the civil system for air quality measurement, AirSofia Dimitrov, explains.
In an attempt to reduce pollution, the municipality will inspect construction and industrial sites and urge people not to use wood and coal fire for heating. In addition, today and tomorrow parking in the underground parking lots will be free of charge.
