The working visit of Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Aaffairs Ekaterina Zaharieva in Tokyo began on 22nd of March. Zaharieva is visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japanese Foreign Minister. She will take part in the Fifth World Summit of Women Ministers for Foreign Affairs and will hold a series of talks with representatives of the political and business community. An official dinner in honour of the forum will be given by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe tonight.

On the eve of the Fifth World Assembly of Women Ministers from all over the world, Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koiko spoke about the important role of women in today's social and political life.

Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo: I know Bulgaria is a country with very strong women who are represented at all levels in public life. You are ranked 18th in the world on this indicator. Japan is not that high in the ranking and I hope we will learn a lot from your experience.

With women at the highest levels in politics and the judiciary, our country is indeed in leading position in the world, Minister Zaharieva noted.

We have 95 out of 100 points in the World Bank's measurement, Zaharieva said.

Yuriko Koyke introduced Ekaterina Zaharieva to interesting details about the first project in the history of the Olympic movement for production of the medals from recycled electronic devices.

The idea of the project, in which today Ekaterina Zaharieva and our diplomats in Tokyo were involved, is to make as many citizens and guests of Japan as possible part of the symbolism of Olympism.

Yuriko Koyke: This is an investment in future medals for Bulgarian athletes at the Olympics - I hope!

Minister Zaharieva became today the first model of the kimono with Bulgarian motifs, which will lead the Bulgarian team at the opening of the Olympic games. At the request of the Japanese Olympic Committee, a total of 196 kimonos will be produced with relevant motifs from participating countries.
