The levels of winter tourism are expected to remain the same as in 2015 and to build upon previously achieved results, Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova said on 24th of October. Over 1.2 million foreign tourists visited Bulgaria, which is 4.5 % more than the previous year, the minister noted as quoted by BTA.
According to Bulgaria’s central bank data, revenue from international tourism between December 2015 and March 2016 exceeds 827 million BGN. The growth in comparison with last year’s winter tourist season is almost 5%. Growth was observed in a number of important markets, such as Macedonia (23 %) , Turkey (over 13%), Serbia (17%), Britain (7%), Israel (19%), the Czech Republic (39%), Hungary (34%).
Angelkova said that according to information from the sector, sales were going strong for the upcoming winter season, and there was an increased interest from Romania and Moldova. According to preliminary data about Plovdiv (South Bulgaria) Airport's winter schedule, tourists from Israel, Ireland, Russia and Britain have already shown interest in Bulgaria as a tourist destination.
