On 1st of October, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security and the Prosecutor’s Office launched a joint operation targetting people smuggling and illegal migration.
501 illegal migrants and 46 persons suspected of involment in people smuggling have been detained since the start of the operation.
Areas near the border, buildings and places are checked for presence of foreign nationals who possibly entered the country illegally.
Nearly 2,000 Ministry of Interior officers took part in the operation.
9,000 people and 5,000 vehicles have been checked. 38 pre-court proceedings have been initiated. The operation in on-going.
