Out of 209 MPs, 126 voted in favour of Zaharieva’s nomination, 66 voted against and 17 abstained.
Ekaterina Zaharieva has a Master’s degree in law. In the first Cabinet of GERB, she was a Deputy-Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. In 2011, she became the Chief Secretary of Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev and later the Chief of Staff. Zaharieva was Deputy Prime Minister in two interim governments. In the first one, she was in charge of regional development. In the second interim government Zaharieva was a minister of investment planning.
