Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on July 5 took part in the Summit of the Berlin Process Initiative, which is held in the Polish city of Poznan.

Speaking to the Heads of State and Government of the Balkan countries and their counterparts from Germany, the UK, Poland, Austria, Italy and the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, the Bulgarian Prime Minister said the keyword should be ‘trust’ and that the work should be focused on that. Borissov noted that the European perspective of the Western Balkans has no alternative.

"It is a guarantee for security and stability in the region, sustainable economic development, social prosperity and continuation of the reforms initiated in these countries," added PM Boyko Borissov.

He stressed that the enlargement of the European Union with the six countries of the Western Balkans remains one of Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities. Borissov pointed out that it is important that the Western Balkans never again return to the state of conflict, opposition and nationalism.

"It is important for us that the Western Balkans never again return to the state of conflict, opposition and nationalism in which they were in the 1990s," the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out.

He added that the role of the Berlin Process in this regard is important and Bulgaria welcomed the initiative to discuss the open issues between the six countries in the region in this format.
