Bulgaria’s President, PM Congratulate Angela Merkel on Election Victory

Bulgaria’s President Roumen Radev has congratulated Chancellor Angela Merkel on the victory of the Coalition of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union in the parliamentary elections in Germany held on 24^th of September, the President’s press secretariat said on 25^th of September. "Voters support is the most eloquent expression of the high appreciation for the success of your statesmanlike policy and vision for the development of Germany and Europe," the President said.

In his letter, Radev expresses the desire of the Bulgarian people to deepen and strengthen the friendly relations between Bulgaria and Germany, based on deep historical links and constructive cooperation within the EU and NATO. "Only by joint efforts we can successfully tackle today's challenges and contribute to building a strong and prosperous Europe in a fairer and more peaceful world," the head of state said.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov stressed that the results of these elections were of critical importance for the future of united Europe and the support received was the highest recognition of the policy pursued. Borissov adds that Angela Merkel, as the leader of the strongest political force in Germany, can continue to rely on Bulgaria in the future. The Bulgarian Prime Minister also emphasizes that he highly appreciates Merkel's personal commitment to the development of Bulgarian-German relations and the support that Germany gives to Bulgaria within the EU.
