At the summit in Brussels, held on May 25, European leaders have backed the creation of digital COVID certificate and called for its swift introduction. The leaders also discussed climate changes and the legislative measures that need to be adopted.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has announced that Bulgaria needs to change its Recovery and Sustainability Plan and that this is a recommendation from Brussels. According to him, there should be more green projects in the Plan to help the country not lose its energy autonomy.

President Rumen Radev called the idea of a green deal a very beautiful idea, but said it posed many challenges, especially for poor countries like Bulgaria. According to him, it could lead to the loss of the country's energy capacitiies, and thus its energy autonomy. This requires the Recovery Plan to be revised. This is what the caretaker government is doing at the moment. According to President Radev, there is also criticism from Brussels regarding the Recovery Plan.

More green projects are expected to be included in the plan. The President also commented on the widely discussed topic of the Republic of North Macedonia. According to him, now all eyes are on Sofia and bilateral relations are expected to be resolved.

“For some time now, I have been receiving invitations every day for talks with European leaders and EU commissioners. The topic is very sensitive, expectations are high, I will not hide. Expectations are focused on Bulgaria. I will not say pressure, I will use this more diplomatic phrase. "It is expected at the Council, in the second half of June, that things would move forward in respect the European path of the Republic of North Macedonia," Rumen Radev said.

Last night, leaders backed new tough measures against Belarus. Measures have been taken to close the European space to flights for aircraft and airlines from Belarus.

"Last night, all leaders strongly condemned Belarus' actions regarding the forced landing of the plane, which is in absolute violation of international law, civil aviation rules and endangers human safety. This action was reflected in the declaration, which we all agreed unanimously. The reason for the interception is definitely contrary to international law. You cannot intercept a plane to make it land because you have a political opponent on board. This is absolutely unacceptable," Radev commented.
