BULGARIA’S PRESIDENT SAYS HE WILL NOT VETO THE CHANGES TO THE ELECTORAL CODE

As quickly as possible I will move forward the promulgation of the adopted changes to the Electoral Code, Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev said on 27th of October in Varna.

Plevneliev said that he would not be the one to impose a veto on the new amendments because at such a crucial moment he did not want to add instability to the process.

“These changes may not be ideal, but as Head of State my argument is about something different – I have always called for stability,” he said.

The President said that in his address to the nation he put specific questions to the presidential candidates. According to him, there was still a deficit of answers. He urged the candidates in the remaining days of the campaign to respond to the questions and say what exactly they plan to do in each of the problematic areas.

Plevneliev commented that he clearly said he would establish political parties after the end of the term of office for President. He added that no one should expect from him to stay in politics at any cost to wait for the next post. “I have given a lot to Bulgaria and will continue to give,” he said.

The President noted he was proud that he was the Head of State who initiated the long-term planning in the country – achieving a full consent as regards “Bulgaria 2020” and initiating the debate on “Bulgaria 2030”.
