Bulgaria’s National Revenue Agency (NRA) has stopped more than 130 websites through which gambling games are organised by companies without a valid licence under the Gambling Act.
In just one month, the revenue agency has suspended 49 unregulated online betting platforms, the NRA said on November 8. The majority of these gambling operators are allowed to operate in countries outside the European Union, but not in Bulgaria.
After the publication of the decision on the NRA website, the sites mentioned in it should cease their activities within 3 days.
If, after this period, the online platforms are accessible in Bulgaria and bets can be placed through them by users in the country, the NRA will apply to the court for an injunction against the internet service providers in the country to terminate access to the pages and their subdomains.
The decisions of the NRA's executive director as well as the orders of the Sofia District Court are published in the Online Gambling section of the revenue agency's website.
The NRA also maintains an up-to-date list of websites through which gambling is organised by entities that do not have a valid licence under the Gambling Act.
Responsible gambling tips and a self-assessment test of gamblers' gambling habits are published in the Responsible Gambling section of the Revenue Agency's website.
