Bulgaria ranks among the top five countries in the European Union in terms of growth in tourist overnight stays for the period April - June this year compared to the same period in 2023. This is according to the latest Eurostat data.
Nearly 2 million and 127 thousand tourist registrations in categorized accommodation were recorded in the second quarter of 2024 in Bulgaria, which led to nearly 6 million overnight stays.
The increase in overnight stays is 6.3% compared to the same period in 2023.
The first place is occupied by Luxembourg with growth of 22.2%, followed by Malta with 12.3%, Latvia 6.4%, and Poland with nearly 4%.
The total number of overnight stays in accommodation in the EU for the period April-June 2024 amounted to around 780 million, with 51% of them resulting from domestic tourism and 49 per cent from inbound tourism.
In Bulgaria, the share of inbound tourism is 55%. Bulgaria is ahead of 16 EU countries in the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists in June this year.
Eurostat data confirm the positive trend in Bulgaria's tourism sector, as the country continues to attract more tourists and is establishing itself as a competitive destination within the European Union, the Ministry of Tourism said.
