The aim is to strengthen security at the border. 40 military officers were sent to the border with Turkey on 17th of September. 160 more are planned to be sent within the next few days.
If this number appears to be insufficient. Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defense is prepared to send a total of 1,000 military personnel by the end of next week.
The Ministry of Defense explained to BNT journalists that they were not deploying special forces, but regular soldiers from the units located in proximity with the border. They will take part in joint patrols with border police.
They will not be allowed to use their personal weapons or to detain migrants. No heavy weaponry will be deployed. Only “Hummer” vehicles will be put there.
