Bulgaria’s caretaker Energy Minister, Rossen Hristov, personally presented a donation of 18 electricity generators in the Ukrainian city of Bolgrad, where 70% of the population are ethnic Bulgarians.
According to the locals, there is electricity only for two hours a day in the city and none in nearby villages for days. They thanked for the help and added that in addition to the above-mentioned establishments, the generators will also be used for the local hospital.
The donation initiative was organised by the Ministry of Energy and funded by the Bulgarian Energy Holding companies. It was in response to the request of “St. St. Cyril and Methodius", company in the town of Bolgrad, with chairman Ivan Polovniuk. It was he who contacted the Ministry of Energy with an appeal for the provision of generators, because the energy infrastructure had been destroyed as a result of the hostilities.
Minister Hristov visited the high school where 500 Bulgarian children study. At present, education there is carried out in shifts - 250 children go to school in person, which is the capacity of the bomb shelter, and 250 more study through distance learning. The in-person and remote students groups rotate every two weeks
"It is impressive and respectable that this school, built with the funds and labour of Bulgarian settlers so many years ago, continues today to educate patriotism and respect for Bulgaria," Hristov said.
He visited the Bulgarian cultural centre and the church.
Minister Hristov also handed over a donation from the Greek Business Council Association in Bulgaria, chaired by Minko Gerdzhikov, who bought goodies for our compatriots for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
