Bulgaria sends a special declaration to the EU, officially requesting to equalize the subsidies for Bulgarian farmers with those in the countries of Western Europe, from this year. The decision is taken by the Council of Ministers. Caretaker Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev motivated it with the delayed convergence and the damage that the Eastern European countries are suffering from the war in Ukraine.
"After the war, we find that the countries under the eastern flang of the EU in practice suffer much greater consequences from the war than the western countries. At the same time, it is the eastern countries that receive lower EU subsidies. We think it is high time that this happened. And we think that otherwise equality and solidarity is undermined if the EU does not react, so with this deliberate decision we have an official position," said Yavor Gechev.
He expressed hope that other EU countries will support Bulgaria in this demand.
