On 25th of May, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey signed an agreement on the establishment of a joint contact centre for police and customs cooperation. The centre will be located at Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.
The agreement was signed by Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Roumyana Bachvariova and her counterparts Sebahattin Öztürk from Turkey and Ioannis Panousis from from Greece.
Deputy Prime Minister Roumyana Bachvarova said that the agreement for the first joint trilateral centre on the Balkans is concluded at an appropriate moment from the historic development of Europe.
Turkey’s Interior Minister said that the information between the three neighbouring countries would be exchanged in real time in order to react adequately to illegal migration and smuggling.
The Greek Chief Deputy Interior Minister – a post equivalent to minister – commented that the police and customs cooperation agreement is an evidence that Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey agreed to deal with such issues with joint efforts.
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borissov, was also present at the signing of the trilateral agreement for police and customs cooperation.
