Bulgaria will receive more than 400,000 doses of Moderna and 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccines from May to June. About 160,000 doses of Astra Zeneca are expected in a few days, Bulgaria’s Minister of Health, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, said on February 26 in Varna, where he gave the start of the work of the latest generation of computer tomograph at St. Marina Hospital in Varna.

He also assured that the second doses, for all vaccinated with the first, are kept and will be administered.

"If we keep the pace of vaccination as it was in the past week, in a month the epidemic in the country will be brought under control," said the health minister.

He said that the opening of the “green corridors” depends on the new deliveries of vaccines, which are expected in the coming days.

The Minister of Health also commented that he was upset that the topic of vaccines was already beginning to be used politically.

"I am very upset that this topic has started to be exploited politically. Politicians are beginning to use the topic without looking at the medical outcome. This is irresponsible behaviour of politicians, to use the fear of the people when you expect to receive political dividends, I do not understand that, "the minister commented.

In recent days there is an increased demand for hospitalization of patients, admitted Prof. Angelov. But there are places in hospitals, the minister assured. There is pressure mostly in Kyustendil, followed by Shumen and Sofia.

“Instead of waiting for a lockdown, people should wear their masks, disinfect their hands, and not gather in large groups. That is enough for effective control of the disease,” he said.

Regarding the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, the minister commented that the decision of the European experts is expected.

With the new equipment, which Prof. Kostadin Angelov presented today, the possibilities for diagnostics of cardiovascular and brain diseases, as well as for examination of lung function will be expanded.

The Minister thanked everyone who works at the hospital. He pointed out that this is the medical institution that took care of the most patients with COVID-19 in Northeastern Bulgaria.

"The state has made efforts, despite the global crisis, despite the reduced number of patients. In "St. Marina ” hospital, 11 clinics were closed during the pandemic and 257 doctors and nurses from them were seconded to treat patients with Covid-19. The state did not abandon the medical establishments, they receive their funds regularly ", Angelov pointed out.
