On April 2 every year, the birthday of the great storyteller Hans Christian Anderson is celebrated with an International Children's Book Day.
In Bulgaria, in the recent years there has been a boom in the field of children's book publishing, according to the Children's Books Foundation. Many Bulgarian writers find their children's audience.
For Albena Varsano and her children, reading is not just an evening ritual, but an escape and salvation at any convenient moment. While reading with them, Albena often rediscovers the child within herself.
If books have made you laugh, cry, recognize yourself in some stories, they will definitely be your friend and companion," said Albena Varsano, a parent.
According to the Children's Books Foundation, books with many illustrations are very important for the education of young readers. They more easily transport children into the magical world of reading. And so the connection between a reader and a book remains for a lifetime.
And if I can say shortly what is happening - positive changes are happening that will help us raise literate children, who like reading. Books are increasingly helping to answer children, their questions right now, explain the world to them and in fact they help them grow up happy and calm," said Valentina Stoeva of the Children's Books Foundation.
And in order for children to read meaningful books, according to Valentina Stoeva, there is a need to introduce quality standards, as quantity does not always mean the best.
