Bulgaria is ranked at the bottom among the EU member states in the corruption perception index, a report of Transparency International for 2016 showed.
The country is ranked in 75th place out of 176 countries included in the study.
Romania is ranked in 57th place. Greece is 69th.
Bulgaria’s score is 41. When the levels of that index are under 50 (the midpoint of the scale) this indicates there are systemic problems, Kalin Slavov, CEO of "Transparency without Borders", the Bulgarian branch of "Transparency International" said on 25th of January.
The corruption perception index for the country remains unchanged in the recent 4 years and is in the lower-ranked countries.
According to him, the main reason is the political failure to adopt the law on the fight against corruption at the highest echelons of power.
Denmark and New Zealand, which share No 1 position, are ranked as least corrupt. Finland is ranked 3rd.
