Bulgaria will participate as shareholder in the Alexandroupolis gas terminal

The country's energy system is prepared for the winter, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told BNT breakfast show on 26^th of November. She added that there would be no scheduled power outages, but explained that technical failures due to bad weather are possible.

Minister Petkova took part in a round table, which discussed the prospects for gas market integration and Bulgaria's priorities for improving energy security in the region.

Bulgaria will participate as a shareholder in the liquefied gas terminal, which is being built in Alexandroupolis, Petkova said. The decision was taken by the government. For this purpose Bulgartransgaz will participate as a minority shareholder in the international company. Bulgaria will thus ensure diversification of gas supplies. There is already a contract with Azerbaijan for 1 billion cubic metres of gas per year, but after the construction of the Bulgaria-Greece connection, we will be able to supply liquefied gas from the United States, Algeria or Qatar.
