The country's energy system is prepared for the winter, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told BNT breakfast show on 26th of November. She added that there would be no scheduled power outages, but explained that technical failures due to bad weather are possible.
Minister Petkova took part in a round table, which discussed the prospects for gas market integration and Bulgaria's priorities for improving energy security in the region.
Bulgaria will participate as a shareholder in the liquefied gas terminal, which is being built in Alexandroupolis, Petkova said. The decision was taken by the government. For this purpose Bulgartransgaz will participate as a minority shareholder in the international company. Bulgaria will thus ensure diversification of gas supplies. There is already a contract with Azerbaijan for 1 billion cubic metres of gas per year, but after the construction of the Bulgaria-Greece connection, we will be able to supply liquefied gas from the United States, Algeria or Qatar.
