Bulgarian engineers won first prize for most significant global innovation in the area of trenchless technologies for the period 2014-2015. The prize was presented at an award ceremony in Istanbul, Turkey.
The Bulgarian team have successfully renovated severely damaged pipelines of exceptionally large sizes in Kazakhstan. Especially for the project, the Bulgarian specialists designed and developed all machines and equipment needed for the rehabilitation of the facilities in the Thermal Power Plant in Kazakhstan.
The over 50 years old pipelines had many leakages. They were located under buildings and their replacement in the traditional methods, through digging, was impossible. The Bulgarian team used an innovative no-dig technology, for which they were presented with an award by the International Society for Trenchless Technology (ISTT).
