Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva arrived on her first official visit to Israel on November 12.
She met with her Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi.
"Friendship and mutual support between Bulgaria and Israel are natural, that's why we have excellent bilateral relations. They are based on the shared history, for better or for worse. Bulgarians have sacrificially saved their Jewish neighbours as true friends, and I am proud that this supreme act of humanism today is remembered and revered by Israel," Zaharieva wrote on Facebook.
According to her, Israel remains Bulgaria’s closest strategic partner in the Middle East, and we continue to develop our ties on all topics of mutual interest - security, tourism, science and high technology, she said.
The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the area of energy today.
"I support a more intensive dialogue at EU-Israel level, which will benefit both countries," Zaharieva said.
She also said that she is glad to be in Israel when we celebrate 30 years since the restoration of Bulgarian-Israeli diplomatic relations. According to her, Israel and Bulgaria are more than strategic and trade partners, our two peoples are close friends and this is evidenced by our deep historical ties, she added.
