Bulgaria’s government on February 3 allocated BGN 20 million for the national programme, which builds and equips modern centres in schools that develop innovations in the field of natural sciences, digital technologies, engineering thinking and mathematics.
"For the second year in a row, we provide BGN 20 million for the national program. The funds will be given to 113 state and municipal schools, " Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during the government’s regular weekly meeting.
For large schools, the maximum funding is up to BGN 300,000, and for smaller ones - up to BGN 50,000.
In 2020, 153 schools received BGN 20 million for the equipment of such innovative classrooms.
"Last year we launched the National Programme "Building a STEM school environment ". Very good projects were developed by the schools. STEM centres are not just furnished and modernized offices. They are also a model of learning that to a greater extent stimulates the preparation in mathematics and natural sciences ", announced the Minister of Education, Krassimir Valchev.

He noted that thanks to these centres, children are more motivated to engage in these important areas of knowledge.
The Minister of Education also informed that the Plan for Reconstruction and Development of Europe envisages the building of such modern classrooms in all schools in the country, which are more than 2000.
In January this year, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov visited “Hristo Botev” Primary School in the village of Dabnitsa, Garmen municipality, where 150 children are studying. This is one of the schools that has an approved project under the national programme and has already started to build such a centre for natural sciences.
