Mine workers in “Cherno More” coal mine, based in the South-East Bulgarian coastal city of Bourgas, staged an underground protest, announced the trade union “Podkrepa” on 17th of December. The night shift of 45 workers refused to leave the pit. The rest of their colleagues, who are outside, also support the protest.
The workers protest over unpaid salaries. The last time they were paid was in October, when they received an advance payment of 350 BGN per person.
A specially formed team will deliver food and drinks for the miners. For the time being, the protesting workers refuse to leave the underground tunnels and are prepared to stay until they receive their salaries.
In September 2014, about 100 workers of the mine staged a protest over unpaid salaries and stayed underground for 40 hours.
