Bulgarian Parliament on 4th of October voted to reject the resignation of GERB MP Delyan Dobrev. He submitted it on 3rd of October after a recent scandal over allegations for appointments in the municipality of the South Bulgarian city of Haskovo. A total of 215 MPs participated in the vote. 97 voted in favour, 99 voted against the resignation and 19 abstained.
A heated debate took place in the plenary hall, with exchange of mutual accusations between the main ruling party GERB and the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP).
Delyan Dobrev submitted his resignation after allegations from BSP MP Elena Yoncheva that reelatives, classmates and former business associates of Dobrev held key positions in the management of the municipality in Haskovo.
